Made from a 100% malted barley mashbill that’s aged over 3.5 years in new American oak barrels and lightly finished in a French white oak cask that previously held Cognac from the esteemed House of Hardy. This barrel finished expression is the result of a first fill of one of just a few Hardy Cognac casks that we were lucky enough to get our hands on this year. As is generally the case wit ha maiden fill, it didn’t take much time in the finishing barrel to start to transform into something entirely new. However, our team was (pleasantly) surprised that after just a few weeks in our new 270 liter French Oak toy, this whiskey had rounded the corner and was ready to go. Don’t let the 92 proof tag fool you, this is so smooth you’ll only want to enjoy it neat.
The tasting journey: the malt base shines first with rich & earthy entrance that quickly gives way to notes of sweet vanilla oak and bright, silky cognac before finishing with a honey palate coat with no burn whatsoever. Each subsequent sip reveals new aspects of the barrel aging adventure this whiskey has completed. Designed for drinking neat.
